PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project makes novel use of playground swings, combining the simple joy of the playground and the immersive potential of VR.
Volo : Dreams of Flight! is a celebration of Leonardo da Vinci's speculative flying machines, his studies of flight, and his pioneering work on visual perspective.
Aboard a playground swing in a public space, wearing an Oculus Go VR headset, users are transported into one of four flying machines: soaring over cliffs in an ORNITHOPTER; joining an aerial ballet in a HELICAL SCREW; shooting into orbit and riding a PARACHUTE back to earth; or weaving a GLIDER across an alien landscape.

MAKING THE EXPERIENCE
Volo is a project created by Studio Go Go and Professor Brendan Walker.  In my role as Principal Interactive Designer for this series of VR experiences,
I worked closely with Professor Walker to help ensure that the project met his aesthetic, practical, and technical goals.  This included orchestrating and implementing the visual and narrative development, conducting extensive user testing, developing the user-facing VR application, and considering front-of-house workflows for the experience.
This project has been deployed internationally, including at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, and in a series of large scale public installations funded by the City of London.
